AI chat vs a contact form on your website

A contact form collects a message and leaves the customer waiting for a reply, while an AI chat agent answers straight away and passes on only what needs a person, with the details your team needs. A form is enough if you get few enquiries and every one needs a person; if many are questions your website already answers, chat saves both sides the wait.

Can I bring my bike in for a service tomorrow?
Tidewell CyclesAI
The workshop takes drop-offs from 8am. Would you like the team to confirm a time? I'll need your name and email.
Yes please. Leo, leo@example.com.
Tidewell CyclesAI
Thanks, Leo. I've passed your request to the team.
Passed to the team. They'll follow up with you.
The difference

What chat does that a form can't

Three moments where a form leaves the customer waiting.

Are you open on public holidays?
Tidewell CyclesAI
We're closed on public holidays and open again the next working day.
01

An answer instead of a queue

Many messages sent through a form are questions your website already answers. The agent answers those on the spot, using your own content.

My gears keep slipping.
Tidewell CyclesAI
Sorry about that. Is it an e-bike or a regular bike, and when was it last serviced?
02

The follow-up question, asked

A form takes whatever the customer types. The agent asks for what your team needs, such as the model or the order number, so the request arrives complete.

Sam runs a delivery firm and asked about bulk pricing. Contact details are in the conversation.
03

Requests still reach your inbox

What needs a person arrives as an email with the customer's details and the whole conversation, just as a form would send it, so your process doesn't change.

When a contact form is enough

If you get a few enquiries a week and every one needs a person, such as a custom quote, a form is simpler and costs nothing. Some customers also prefer a form for a long or private message, and chat isn't live: Lexey doesn't hand a live chat over to a person mid-conversation, and your team follows up by email.

Using both

You don't have to choose. Keep your contact form and add Lexey's chat widget beside it with a code snippet, or link to a hosted chat page. Tell Lexey when the agent should point people to the form, and it will.

Questions

Common questions

Is AI chat better than a contact form?
For questions your website already answers, yes: the customer gets an answer straight away instead of waiting for a reply. For enquiries that always need a person, a form works just as well.
Will customers know they're talking to an AI?
Yes. Lexey's chat shows an AI marker in its header and a line under the message box saying its replies are AI-generated.
What happens when the agent can't answer?
It says so rather than guessing, and offers to pass the question to your team. It takes the customer's name and email, and any other details you ask for, and emails the request to you.
How do I add chat to my website?
Paste the widget's code snippet into your site, or link to the hosted chat page Lexey gives you. The docs on embedding show each option.
